Sleep studies involve an overnight stay at one of our specialized sleep centers, which range from standard rooms to luxurious hotel-like environments. We also offer the convenience of conducting sleep studies in the comfort of your own home.

What Happens During and After the Sleep Study

Our trained sleep technicians will place electrodes on your scalp, chest, and legs to gather the necessary data. Rest assured, your sleep will not be observed by anyone directly but will be tracked through advanced computer systems. This outpatient study is entirely painless.

Post-Study Analysis

A board-certified sleep medicine physician will interpret the results of your study. Sleep Study FAQ

The all-night Sleep Study (Polysomnography test from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 am the next day) is a non-invasive recording of multiple body functions during sleep. The Polysomnography will record your brain wave patterns (EEG), muscle movements and movements of your eyes, the amount of oxygen, nose, mouth, and abdominal breathing, your leg movements and your heart rate in sleep. These functions are analyzed separately and in their interactions.

An overnight Sleep Study is a painless and very important test to diagnose disorders related to sleep, such as stop breathing in sleep, snoring, awakenings or difficulties falling back to sleep, heart irregularities, muscle pain, bad dreams, unusual behavior in your sleep and many others (there are 83 sleep disorders identified). A Sleep Study test is crucial in helping to develop the right treatment.

For patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a CPAP Titration sleep study will be performed to calibrate Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). The CPAP device is a machine with a humidifier, which produces air that flows through a fitted mask into the nose or mouth with a specified pressure. Titration means a careful and precise measurement of the necessary pressure. Currently, CPAP is the most common way to treat and manage sleep-related breathing disorders.

For people who have excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue, a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) is a necessity. This test objectively measures the level of sleepiness and is performed in the morning, always following the Sleep Study. The MSLT consists of four to five 20 minute naps followed by periods of alertness.

No one will watch you sleep. Cameras and sensors are present to detect your position and snoring.

One to two days before your test, our staff will call you to confirm your appointment and ask if you have any additional questions. NOTE: We ask that you contact our office at least 24 hours prior to the test if you need to CANCEL or reschedule.

Take all the medications that you usually take at the prescribed times. Bring any nighttime medications or medication for the next morning with you. If you are unsure please consult with your doctor.

No sleeping pills will be given to you during your sleep study, however If necessary, your doctor can prescribe you something or recommend something over the counter to take.

Inform the person scheduling your sleep study, if you have any special needs, medical conditions or allergies, diabetes, asthma, etc.
